In 1978 a bunch of New Zealand surf pioneers began crafting surfboards, selling equipment & clothing in the sleepy Coromandel town of Whangamata. The dream was to create a business that would support the surfing lifestyle and a slower pace of life. 40 years later the original dream is alive and well for the Mitchell family, founding members of the community based Saltwater surf shop.
Saltwater surfboards are now regarded as iconic pieces of art and history. Hand crafted in a period of freedom, experimentation & creativity by some of the most respected shapers in New Zealand. Bob Davies, Pete Anderson, ............, ..............., .............,
Whangamata bar needs no introduction to surfers. One of the iconic breaks in the land of the left handers, with its pure white sand bottom and turquoise/green water its beauty and perfection is timeless.
